Mission Statement
Lambda Biotechnology Association is an organization dedicated to providing opportunities for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered members of the biotechnology and life sciences communities within the greater San Diego area to socialize and network within this community and to provide outreach for educational and charitable purposes.

History
The impetus for starting this organization began with the gathering of 8 people for dinner in September 2000. The dream was to establish a LGBT organization for people interested in biotechnology careers to network and socialize with other professionals.
The focus was expanded over several organizational meetings to include individuals in other areas of the life sciences, such as the medical and healthcare industries and academia, and those from other industries (such as hi-tech) who are interested in learning more about the biotech industry and would benefit from such an organization.
The organization was incorporated in April 2001 as a non-profit corporation and has received 501(c)(4) tax-exemption status.
Individuals from more than 40 institutions (industrial and academic) have participated in LBA-sponsored events and LBA maintains an e-mail distribution list of over 100 persons who support the organization's mission.
